Barefoot just returned from a trip to West Virginia. He was performing at West Virginia Day and on Mountain Stage, with Charlie McCoy and the West Virginia Super Pickers. Mountain Stage, was filmed for broadcast on PBS and will also air on NPR, on July 9.
The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame and FestivALL Charleston staged a free musical birthday party for the Mountain State (West Virginia Day) from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 20. The free concert, presented by Verizon, took place on the Schoenbaum Stage of the recently redesigned Haddad Riverfront Park in the Capitol City. Performers included 2008 WV Music Hall of Fame inductee Charlie McCoy and the WV Superpickers (featuring Russ Hicks, Wayne Moss and Robert Shafer).
According to The Charleston Gazette:
“Charlie McCoy led a group of excellent musicians called the “West Virginia Superpickers” in a beautiful rendition of “Cold, Cold Heart” by Hank Williams and barn-burning version of “Orange Blossom Special.” McCoy also featured a song of his own called “Take the New River,” about a man in love with a moonshiner’s daughter.” Read more about the event at WVGazette.com
